Oakland Care Homes Host Tea Tasting in collaboration with Twinings for National Tea Day
Oakland Care Homes recently hosted Tea Tasting events in collaboration with Twinings as part of the National Tea Day celebration.
National Tea Day is a day when the British celebrate their deep-rooted relationship with the popular beverage. Britons consume more than 60 billion cups of tea every year, which equates to over 165 million cups per day.
The Twining family initially resided in Gloucestershire, where they worked as weavers and fulling millers. However, they moved to London in 1684 due to the recession. Nine-year-old Thomas Twining, who would later establish the tea business, went with them. He trained as a weaver in London before switching to the tea trade and becoming a Freeman of the City of London in 1701.
In honor of St. George’s Day and the beloved beverage, Zoe Spencer from Twinings visited Elsyng House Care Home, where she discussed the health benefits of different types of tea, and how to promote fluid intake.
At Elmbrook Court Care Home, Will from Twinings gave an informative talk about the history of the Twinings tea company. Attendees also got to sample various types of tea, and the Breakfast tea emerged as a favourite.
At Woodland Grove Care Home, the residents enjoyed two days of tea tasting, starting with an exploration of the different teas available in-house. On the second day, a Twinings representative visited and introduced new Twinings flavours, including cold blends, to the residents. It was an amazing tea-tasting experience, and the residents even got some ideas for refreshing drinks to enjoy in the summer heat.
