Meet the Eastbourne team

  • Dean Haffenden

    Registered General Manager

I started my working journey in the hotel and restaurant industry. After 10 years I decided on a change and moved into the private care sector, where I have stayed for the last 20 years. During this time, I have worked in a variety of roles and most recently as Head of Hospitality. I have the belief that every single employee plays a huge role in the success of the home, so I feel that teamwork is a priority. My biggest accomplishment was leading a team to win the coveted National Association of Care Catering Award for Care Establishment of the Year. My favourite activity in my spare time is making memories with my family.
  • Abi Smith

    Deputy Manager

I qualified as an enrolled Nurse in 1985, after this I worked at the William Harvey Hospital in Kent. I then moved to working with severely disabled adults within Social Services. Following time out to have my family, I returned to a care home environment and qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1993.  I then furthered my role working as a Senior Nurse and was instrumental in implementing the Gold Standard Framework within the care home I was then working in. I joined Beechwood Grove in 2018 as a Registered Nurse on the Nursing unit and progressed to become Clinical Lead in 2019.
  • Iain Attwood

    Head Chef

I was born and raised in Eastbourne, East Sussex and qualified as a Chef in 1983. I have worked in hotels in and around Eastbourne and progressed to Head Chef at the Afton Hotel in 1987. After a brief move to the Isle of Wight, where I was the Head Chef in one of the largest hotels on the island, I returned to Eastbourne and joined Beechwood Grove Care Home in July 2019. I have four children, all girls, and four grandchildren and I'm an avid Arsenal football fan!
  • Sharon Ward

    Head of Client Experience

I started at Beechwood Grove in 2018 when the home was still in the final stages of being built ....my first day I wore a hard hat and wellies ! My role is to meet families who are looking for care for a loved one and to support them with the decision to move them into a care home environment. We have strong links with the local community and encourage a two-way involvement with people coming into the home and residents going out.  My role supports the Lifestyle team to arrange events within the home to ensure we are offering a fun place for residents to live and to showcase the home to potential new residents.

Testimonials

“The environment is homely and caring and the accommodation is excellent. All the staff-the carers, admin, housekeeping and catering are warm, caring and professional. I cannot fault any aspect of the accommodation or care.”

C S (Daughter of Resident)

“I am happy that my beloved sister is in the care of Beechwood Grove. I am assured that only the best in standards are upheld and that they are always seeking ways to stimulate and interact with their residents and that I am consulted and kept informed on the programme of care they put into place.”

D R (Sister of Resident)

“My Husband became a resident to Beechwood Grove in January 2021. We were both very nervous as to how it would all turn out. I need not have worried. My husband enjoyed his first day’s stay and has enjoyed every day since then. I feel relaxed that I don’t need to worry about him getting all he needs.”

Elaine W (Wife of Resident)

“A beautiful place in a lovely setting. The staff are outstanding! So caring and helpful. We feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful home for our aunt.”

Ian F (Nephew of Resident)

“The quality of the staff was the key to the first-class care given to my brother. It began at the entrance with the reception and then continued throughout the system to the delivery of expert and compassionate care of my brother. We could not have been more satisfied. Thank you all.”

Jenny W (Sister of Resident)

“Beechwood Grove has a warm and welcoming feel. The purpose-built building allows the residents to move around freely both inside and out. The bedrooms offer space and privacy. Lovely outside gardens to communal areas inside to sit and enjoy. Lots of great activities during the day. I would like to thank all the lovely staff for looking after my Mum.”

Louise G (Daughter of Resident)

“Beechwood Grove has offered our family a lifeline in knowing that our mother is valued and cared for as an individual. We feel safe in the knowledge that her best interests are always at the heart of those who are caring for her and that she is enjoying herself. All the staff we have spoken to/dealt with have been both reassuring, kind and helpful.”

Lynda B (Daughter of Resident)

“My Mum has been a resident suffering from dementia……The facilities and activities at Beechwood Grove are excellent. The resident’s rooms and communal areas are very well presented. This is a modern, purpose-built care home, designed to give the best experience for residents and family alike. Our experience with the staff has been superb.”

Ray B (Son of Resident)

“My mother has been a resident at Beechwood Grove for 2 years. They have always been very welcoming and acted in her best interests. Throughout lockdown when I was unable to visit her, it was a comfort to know that she was safe and well cared for and I didn’t need to worry about her wellbeing.”

Sue T (Daughter of Resident)

“Wonderful staff, who show genuine care and interest in residents. Lovely location and beautifully presented. Fantastic to have the garden accessible for all.”
