Celebrating Carers Week

Happy Carers Week

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.  This year’s theme is Making Caring Visible and Valued!

We are extremely fortunate to have Carers who are dedicated, experienced, and skilled team members across our care homes and who all support our residents every day.

As well as marking this important day in our care homes with celebrations and acts of appreciation for all our Carers, we have chosen to highlight some of our Carers who have demonstrated our values of FIRE (Family. Integrity. Respect. Exceptional) and have made this central to everything they do in enriching the lives of our residents. Read more, on why it’s important to them to work in Social Care.

Danielle Cunningham – Senior Carer

Danielle started working at Beechwood Grove as a Care Assistant in November 2019, and was promoted to a Senior Carer soon after.

“I am based on the Nursing Unit but cover all floors, which I particularly enjoy as I love getting to know all our residents and their families.

Working through Covid-19 has been a massive challenge and one of the hardest things I have had to face but we all pulled together, it showed how much of a family we all are here.

I am currently taking my NVQ Level 3 and have received so much support from the management.  Working for Oakland Care is an honour and I see myself here for many years to come”.

– Danielle

Adeline Poussin – Carer

Adeline works at Elsyng House as a Carer; she explained why she enjoys her role in social care

“I’d say that it’s the combination of working in such an outstanding environment, caring for the residents and learning from the people I get to work with.

I love connecting with people, having the opportunity to empower them and making them feel special. I also very much enjoy being a facilitator and I’m glad I get to do some of that at Elsyng House”.

– Adeline

Katie Sharpe – Carer

Katie has been a Health Care Assistant at Hastings Court for 18 months and is part of the team that care for our Poppy Community. She has worked in adult social care for the last 8 years previously working as a Health Care Assistant in the community before joining our team.

Katie explained that “she loves working for Oakland Care because she feels supported in her role, and loves the family spirit. I like that everyone is thanked and rewarded with treats and bonuses which makes her feel appreciated. Working here has helped me grow in confidence and I feel part of a fantastic team”.

Katie beamed that the last 18th months have been the happiest of her life. Her boundless energy and positivity reflected in the smiles of the residents she cares for.

We asked various residents about Katie, their overwhelming response is; “Katie brings sunshine to corridors. Everything she does, she does is with a smile. Nothing is too much for our Katie. Bless her, she’s a lovely girl”.

Brinda Beeharry – Carer

Brinda works at Lambwood Heights as a Carer; she explained

“The thing I enjoy most is that I get full support of all of the Senior Cares and Managers, and I feel like I’m well looked after as a Carer here. Whenever I raise a concern or comment I feel like I’m heard.”

– Brinda

“Our Carers form the backbone of our service at Oakland Care.  Carer’s week is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the immense contribution of each of our Carer’s for the incredible work they do each and every day.  I started my career as a Carer before training to be a Registered Nurse and I truly believe that Care is a fantastic career pathway for our young talented team.

Our Carer’s are passionate and inspirational and I want to thank each and every one of them for choosing to be part of Oakland Care and for the quality of care and service they provide to our residents each day”.

– Joanne Balmer, our Chief Executive

At Oakland Care, we create comfortable living for our residents that promotes individuality.  Our personalised and high-quality care plans, five-star environment and fulfilling activities programmes are designed to enhance each and every day.
