Woodland Grove Paul Potts Concert

Residents at Woodland Grove given Christmas treat with exclusive concert from Paul Potts

Our Woodland Grove Care Home residents received an extra special Christmas present this year with an exclusive concert by Welsh tenor and former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winner, Paul Potts.

Paul, who won the very first series of the ITV show in 2007, delighted residents with a concert live from his home. Residents gathered in the cinema room and were joined by fellow residents from Lambwood Heights via video link.

Paul thrilled residents with songs including ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Caruso’. He followed the show with a Q&A session, answering residents’ questions on how he looks after his voice and his favourite places to perform.

Resident Susan Liquorish thoroughly enjoyed the performance. She said, “I loved it! His singing was so beautiful. It was a wonderful event!”

Our Chief Executive Officer Joanne Balmer said, “2020 has been a challenging year for our residents who haven’t been able to go out as they would normally, and haven’t had as much contact with their families as they would have liked. We wanted to do something extra special for them. We were thrilled when Paul agreed to perform.”

Since winning Britain’s Got Talent 13 years ago, Paul has released five studio albums and has performed almost 1,000 times across 44 countries.

On his performance at Woodland Grove Paul said, “This concert from my living room was an absolute pleasure for me to do. Having had performances cancelled, I understand a little of what it’s like to have your life limited by the coronavirus pandemic.

“I thought if I can bring a bit of entertainment to the residents, and some festive joy, then that’s what I wanted to do.”

Joanne continued, “We are so grateful to Paul for doing this. The festive season has been very different for our residents this year and this concert has given them something unexpected and unique. It’s great to be able to offer them new experiences and create new memories of a wonderful day.”

Residents at Hastings Court and Beechwood Grove were also able to enjoy the performance via video link as everyone had a wonderful time together.
