Oakland Care helps the Essex Forest Initiative to plant over 400 trees at Alderton Junior School in Loughton
This community tree planting initiative is part of our commitment to sustainability and involvement with the community. Our dedicated team members from Lambwood Heights, Elsyng House, Woodland Grove Care Homes, and Head Office joined with the Essex Forest Initiative to plant over 400 trees.
Jaime Carvalho, Forestry and Woodland Officer at Essex Forest Initiative, commented, “The Essex Forest Initiative is a county-wide tree planting scheme with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change. In doing that, we also provide and improve green spaces for people and communities. This is why planting in schools is so rewarding, not only because we are allowing spaces for nature flourish but also for the opportunity to raise awareness and educate younger generations about the importance of trees. Having volunteers, such as parents and corporate groups, like we had today from Oakland Care, really make a difference in improving our environment, little by little, one tree at a time.”
The primary reason for planting trees is to lock up carbon and offset the carbon produced, contributing to ongoing climate change. But planting trees also has other benefits, such as improving air quality, encouraging biodiversity, and reducing flooding.
Oakland Care is proud to have been involved in this project and committed to giving back at least 1,500 hours of staff time to local communities to volunteer with environmental projects. Our involvement in this initiative is part of our strategy to lead the way in demonstrating the importance of sustainability in our sector and beyond.
