Life Living at a Care Home

Moving from your own home into a care home can be a big change. When you’re usure what to expect from life in a care home, it can be helpful to have a think about what you’d like to see when you get there. Care homes can have a lot to offer to make your stay there comfortable and your daily life relaxing, sociable, and fulfilling, so many have incredible facilities to enjoy.

Living life in a care home should be just as comfortable as your own home. Caring staff are on hand to help you feel like you’re well taken care of and there are usually social activities arranged so you can get to know other residents. Many people make close friendships with other residents and really enjoy the convenience of being able to pop out of their room and have a chat with someone friendly.

What makes a good nursing home or care home?

Regardless of what sort of place you’re looking to live in, when you’re thinking about what to look for in a retirement home, residential home, or nursing home, thinking about what the surrounding area is like is important too. How easy will it be for your loved ones to visit you and how easily can you access local amenities should you need them? The more conveniently placed your care home, the more you’ll be able to focus on relaxing and enjoying your stay.

The best care homes are equipped with a variety of modern facilities and are staffed by deeply caring, diligent carers and managers ready to meet your care plan needs. The best way to find this out is to have a look online at some local homes and take a virtual tour so you can see for yourself if the home is to your taste. Another important thing to consider is CQC ratings to ensure the home meets independently verified safety standards.

What do you do in a nursing home or care home?

Living life in a care home can be almost identical to life in your own home but with more on-hand support and a community of people with similar needs living alongside you. This support will enable you to continue to live your life safely and comfortably. Many people find life in a care home more convenient and worthwhile as they can focus on enjoying themselves while all their care needs are provided for.

The wonderful thing about homes like ours at Oakland Care is that you can join in with as many activities as you’d like. If you’d prefer to spend time enjoying some peace and quiet, we have spaces for relaxation – such as our stunning landscaped gardens. If you like to be more social, we have a great range of activities – from baking, to crafts, to music classes, to animal visits, to yoga – we like to offer something for everyone’s taste, and this is something we get fantastic feedback on from residents and their families. We also love to organise accessible day trips so our residents can enjoy getting out and about, and sometimes even arrange special visitors, like musicians, to perform and provide entertainment.

What is it like living in a care home like Oakland Care?

At our Oakland Care homes, staff really want to help you feel like you’re part of a family. We take the time to get to know our residents and go the extra mile to help them feel comfortable. This is why we love to share celebrations together by marking special occasions for our residents and staff!

We believe everyone deserves to feel appreciated on their birthday. So, if it’s something they’d like us to do, we love making a big fuss for our residents’ big day! Everything from facilitating family visits to baking them a cake and decorating their rooms with balloons and banners, we do what we can to show them our love.

Similarly, we love celebrating the Christmas season, decorating all our homes and providing festive activities and a traditional Christmas dinner party! Our Beechwood Grove residents decorated their very own gingerbread houses and held an incredible Christmas market. Residents at all of our homes came together to make a Christmas video to showcase their celebrations!

Day trips are a fantastic opportunity for our residents to enjoy the outdoors with their friends, so we like to organise these to make things as simple as possible for everyone. Our Hastings Court residents enjoyed a trip in their brand-new minibus to Hastings Old Town for a stroll on the beach to celebrate the new year and they all had a fantastic time!

To find out more about what life is like in one of our care homes, please take a look through our Facebook or LinkedIn pages. This is where we post the latest news from our homes, showcase photos of special events and trips, share testimonials from our residents and their loved ones about their experience with us, and give insight into what our lovely residents get up to!
