Respite Care: What It Is And How It Can Benefit Your Family
At Oakland Care, we are dedicated to giving each of our residents the best possible care – from tailored care packages to offering enriching activities. We support your loved one throughout their time with us, whether it’s a two-week respite or a two-year stay.
What is Respite care?
Respite care means that someone who normally requires full-time care at home by a family member or carer has a short stay in a residential care home. This allows their family or primary carer to have a break from their caring responsibilities and gives their loved one time to socialise and take part in activities they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.
Occasionally someone may require emergency respite care, for example after being in the hospital and needing time to recover, or when a carer falls ill or goes on holiday. A short respite stay can also ease your loved ones into full-time care, giving them time to adjust to the changes, as well as experience the social aspects of what it’s like to live in a residential home.
How we can support you
You might be asking yourself, what is the difference between respite and a care home? At Oakland Care, there’s no difference at all – we have several homes that allow short-term respite care stays where you can enjoy all the benefits of the care home.
We offer 24-hour person-centred care, allowing your loved one to receive the support they need, while carers get a well-deserved break, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being expertly looked after. Respite care for elderly family members also offers them the chance to interact with their peers and make new friends.
Being away from carers and loved ones during this time can be stressful, even if it is only for a short period. At Oakland Care we have plenty of ways to combat the feelings of anxiety and loneliness; tablet devices to make phone or video calls, stimulating activities, and plenty of companionship.
They will have full access to the home and all the facilities within, like the bistro, exercise classes, pet therapy, and days out.
How much is respite care per day in the UK?
Our respite care stays are charged per day or part thereof, depending on care needs – a two-week minimum stay is normally required. For a full breakdown of fees and a list of our homes that offer respite stays, please contact our helpful team or give us a call on 02030193939.
