Woodland Grove Launches Silver Movers Dementia-Friendly Exercise Class
New free exercise class aims to get people with dementia moving!
People living with dementia in Loughton are being invited to join a new free exercise at Woodland Grove care home on Saturday 28th May 2022 from 11am – 12pm, called ‘Silver Movers’, run in partnership with Leyton-based dance school and social enterprise, Blair Academy, which will provide chair-based exercises for residents and people in the community.
“We decided to hold the class during the weekend because many activities aimed at people living with dementia in the community take place during the working week, and often carers are not able to take their loved ones to a class because of existing work commitments. This way, more people can make it and get the benefit of the class,” says Woodland Grove’s registered manager Hazel McGwyne.
The Blair Academy has been running classes at Woodland Grove for four years, which have been hugely popular. Hazel says there’ll be a variety of music for people to get moving too.
“Exercise helps to keep people living with dementia active – cognitively and physically – and can help to improve their mood too,” she says. “It is also a good way for them to get out of the house and meet people, but in a safe space.
How to book:
The Silver Movers class is free to attend, but places are limited, so people are advised to book. Light refreshments will also be provided on the day. Call Woodland Grove on 020 8508 9220 for more information. Going forward, the class will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month.
