Woodland Grove International Nurses Day
Celebrating our amazing nurses at Oakland Care
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world on 12th May each year to mark the contributions nurses make to society. The World Health Organisation (WHO) have designated 2020 as ‘International Year of the Nurse and Midwife’ to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.
As well as marking this important day with celebrations in our care homes, we have spoken to a few of the amazing nurses that work for us to share their stories.
Petronela Aruxandei
Petronela Aruxandei was born in Romania and graduated from there as a Registered Nurse (RN). Petronela has been working for Woodland Grove Care Home in Essex since January 2020 and has recently relocated to London from Scotland.
Her role entails effectively communicating with residents and making sure their safety is maintained at all times. She likes to meet new people, learn new things, do lots of travelling and is a fond lover of animals.
She provides resident care in line with medical plans including physical assessments. Petronela also provides individual resident education and utilises therapeutic communication techniques to facilitate resident’s optimum level of wellness. She uses her previous experiences and skillset to provide emotional support to the residents.
Speaking about what she enjoys about her role at Woodland Grove, Petronela said, “I particularly enjoy the satisfaction from my job and love spending time with residents especially when they’re happy and say thank you with a big smile on their face.”
Petronela is happy with the support that has been provided to her by the management team since she has been a part of Oakland Care.
Speaking about the importance of nurses, Petronela says, “I think that to be a nurse is a privilege. Nurses are responsible for the total care of the residents from administering medicine to initiating treatment plans. They also prepare IVs, draw blood, give injections, offer support for residents and families, all while being calm under pressure!”
Speaking about Nursing as a profession, Petronela says, “Nursing is a great career especially during this period of COVID 19. I feel so rewarded and proud to be a nurse and will always encourage other people to take nursing as a career. I wish more people got to see just how beautiful this profession is.”
