This Remembrance Sunday, 2025 was marked with deep respect, creativity, and community spirit across our Oakland Care homes, as residents, team members, and families came together to honour those who served and sacrificed.

Beechwood Grove residents and team members gathered in solemn remembrance, sharing Laurence Binyon’s timeless poem “For the Fallen.” Ceramic poppies, lovingly crafted by residents, adorned the space — each one a tribute to courage, love, and peace. “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

Elsyng House held a veteran’s tribute for their resident and veteran, Donald. He proudly laid a wreath at the Enfield Town Remembrance Service. Later on, the home hosted a Remembrance Afternoon Tea, filled with stories, gratitude, and admiration for Donald and all who served. “Never to be forgotten.”

A musical tribute was held at Elmbrook Court with the lovely D Day Dollies. They returned for a moving performance that filled the home with emotion and cherished memories. Their wartime songs brought smiles and tears, reminding everyone of the enduring power of music in remembrance.

There was a special Remembrance display in Hastings Court Bistro space, inviting families to contribute photos of loved ones. This growing tribute honours both those who served and those remembered with love.

Lambwood Heights residents crafted poppies for the garden, joined by a cadet — the son of a resident — who performed a march and read a heartfelt poem. The day was enriched by a performance from the D-Day Dollies, bringing joy and nostalgia.

At Woodland Grove, volunteer Chelsea and resident Susan created a stunning Remembrance-themed artwork at the Art Club. It will be featured in the home’s wall exhibition, with plans for a full evening exhibition in 2026 showcasing resident creativity.

Across all our care homes, residents spent time with friends and family watching the national Remembrance Ceremony. Stories, hugs, and laughter were shared, ending with sweet treats and warm drinks — a comforting close to a meaningful day.
