At Oakland Care, every day is an opportunity to care, not just for our residents, but for the planet we all share. On World Environment Day, we’re proud to reflect on the progress we’ve made and reaffirm our commitment to sustainability as a core part of our mission.

Sustainability at the Heart of Care

Since 2020, Oakland Care has placed sustainability at the heart of our operations. We believe that truly caring for people means also caring for the environment in which they live. That’s why we’ve embedded sustainability into our core values and daily practices across all our homes.

• Certified at Greenmark Level 3
• Two-time winners of the international Green World Award

Greener Homes and Healthier Communities

Our care homes are designed with sustainability in mind. All new developments from 2025 onwards will be gas-free, powered by renewable energy sources like solar and air source heat pumps. We’re also committed to:

• Achieving 100% green electricity tariffs by 2030
• Ensuring 50% of our homes produce renewable energy onsite
• Dedicating 25% of the external space to biodiversity in all new sites

Empowering Our People

Sustainability is a team effort. Our Green Committee, made up of over 50 passionate team members, leads initiatives from tree planting to biodiversity garden projects. Every employee receives sustainability training, and our Green Champions are supported with university-accredited diplomas to drive innovation from within.

Our Net Zero Journey

We’ve set ambitious goals:

• 50% reduction in emissions per employee by 2030
• Net Zero by 2050, aligned with Science Based Targets (SBTi)

We’re tackling emissions across all scopes—from reducing gas use and improving recycling, to supporting greener commuting and partnering with low-carbon suppliers.

From biodiversity gardens designed with residents to tree planting with local schools, our initiatives not only reduce our footprint, but they also build stronger, greener communities.
