Green Week 2026 has once again demonstrated the incredible impact that can be achieved when team members, residents, suppliers, and local communities come together with a shared commitment to sustainability and community action.

Across Oakland Care, homes embraced Green Week with a wide range of activities designed to support local environmental projects, strengthen community partnerships, and encourage greener living. From conservation volunteering and gardening projects to eco fairs and charitable initiatives, the week showcased how small actions can contribute to meaningful change.
One of the week’s highlights saw teams support local schools and community spaces. At Horizon Primary Academy, volunteers helped create an outdoor area where children can sit, read, and enjoy growing a herb garden. The project is set to continue in the coming months, with teams proud to play a role in creating an engaging and educational outdoor environment for future generations.

Environmental conservation remained a key focus throughout the week. Team members from Elsyng House volunteered alongside Enfield Council and Friends of Enfield Chase as part of the Landscape Recovery Project, helping to protect young trees and support the development of a healthier, more resilient landscape. Meanwhile, Osbern Manor joined volunteer rangers at Poulton Wood, assisting with conservation work and learning more about how recycled and repurposed materials are used throughout the site to support nature recovery.

Oakland Care homes also continued to strengthen their links with local charities and community organisations. At Beechwood Grove, donations of food and coats collected during Green Week were collected by Eastbourne Foodbank, Oakland Care’s Charity of the Year. The donations will be distributed through the food bank’s network of community organisations, supporting individuals and families in need across the local area. Beechwood Grove also opened the doors to its Eco Fair, while generous donations of locally grown apples helped spread the Green Week message that healthy, sustainable choices can be simple and accessible.

Residents embraced opportunities to learn more about the natural world too. At Elsyng House, residents visited the London Butterfly House at Hall Place, learning about butterfly conservation before returning home to continue gardening activities. Team members and residents refreshed herb beds following recent dry weather, planted new flowers, and welcomed local schoolchildren for an intergenerational gardening session, creating a wonderful opportunity for learning, connection, and creativity.

Elsewhere, the team at Elmbrook Court volunteered at the Parkinsons.Me Community Garden, clearing planters, building a compost bin, harvesting fruit and vegetables, and helping maintain the space for visitors. The day showcased the power of community collaboration, with residents and team members working side-by-side to support a valuable local resource.

As Green Week draws to a close, its impact continues to be felt across Oakland Care’s homes and communities. The week has not only supported environmental initiatives and conservation projects but has also strengthened relationships, encouraged learning, and demonstrated the power of collective action.

Oakland Care would like to thank everyone who contributed to another successful Green Week. Together, they have made a positive difference for local communities, the environment, and future generations.
