Oakland Care shortlisted as Finalist for 3 categories in this year’s LaingBuisson Awards
We are delighted to announce that Oakland Care has been shortlisted for the Small Residential Care, Outstanding Response to Covid in Social Care, and Management Excellence awards at this year’s LaingBuisson Awards. Oakland Care achieved this remarkable feat of securing three shortlistings after providing outstanding services to residents over the last twelve months.
Small Residential Care
On being shortlisted for the Small Residential Care award, LaingBuisson were impressed by Oakland Care’s continuing commitment to the health and well-being of both staff and team members.
Oakland Care have demonstrated an impressive increase in the level of staff engagement with survey participation rates jumping from 45% to 95% in the past few months. Oakland Care has also reduced the rate of employee turnover by 37%, after year-on-year figures saw turnover reduce from 65% to 28%.
Outstanding Response to Covid in Social Care
Oakland Care’s second shortlisting came for the Outstanding Response to Covid in Social Care Award. During these unprecedented times Oakland Care has been able to remain coronavirus free throughout the pandemic and had introduced a series of preventative measures.
These included closing to visitors very early on in the pandemic, purchasing significant stocks of PPE and cleaning products at the earliest point, closing staff rooms, co-horting groups of staff to specific areas of the homes, additional cleaning and extra hand-washing facilities.
Oakland Care were also praised for the continuous communication with relatives as Zoom-based forums were facilitated with the Senior Leadership Team on a regular basis.
Relatives were updated fortnightly from Oakland Care CEO Joanne Balmer as the team had contact with relatives via video calls. Oakland Care were also among the very first care homes in the UK to reinstate safe visiting in early June with the introduction of bespoke summerhouses in the garden of each of the homes.
Management Excellence
Oakland Care have also been named as a finalist for the Management Excellence Award category. With an ethos that puts the wellbeing of residents and families first, the Awards Panel recognised the industry-leading quality of management displayed by Oakland Care.
Oakland Care are unreservedly committed to supporting team members with CEO Joanne Balmer regularly hand writing letters of recognition to those who provide outstanding levels of service.

Speaking of being shortlisted at the LaingBuisson 2020 Awards, CEO Joanne Balmer said, “To be shortlisted for three awards at this year’s LaingBuisson awards is a truly amazing achievement and one that the entire Oakland Care community can take pride in.
“Over the last twelve months, we’ve demonstrated our ability to provide industry-leading services to our residents in line with our core values. And, although the Covid-19 pandemic has been a testing time for the social care sector, our care homes have risen to the challenge and ensured that each and every one of our communities has remained a safe environment for our residents.
“As we look ahead, we will continue to build on these successes but always keep the health & wellbeing of our residents and team members at the heart of everything we do.”
The awards will be decided on Thursday 19th November at a ceremony in London.
