This week, our Chefs at Oakland Care came together to support ‘Stop Food Waste Day,’ a global initiative to ignite change in how we approach food waste. This day serves as a reminder for all of us, especially those in the culinary field, to minimise waste and maximise creativity in the kitchen. Across the globe, chefs are taking significant steps to tackle the food waste crisis. They are thoughtfully managing food quantities and getting creative with off-cuts and leftovers.

At Oakland Care, the team embraced this initiative with the guidance of Annika, our Development Chef. Each chef received recipe cards designed to inspire the transformation of kitchen waste into delicious dishes. Check out the recipe

The initiative was launched in all our care homes, with an extra special challenge from Iain, our Catering Operations Manager. He encouraged our chefs to prepare banana skin cookies with the residents—a fun way to engage everyone and show how delicious waste-free cooking can be.

Aaron, Assistant Director of Corporate Services & Sustainability, remarked, “A food waste initiative such as this is a great way to make a big impact locally in the Homes.

Our commitment to sustainability is guiding us in promoting better stock control and production practices across our facilities. Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that we will soon be launching our “greener working initiatives.”

Stay tuned for more information on how we will continue to promote sustainability within our homes!
