Housekeeper Spotlight: Maria Fletcher, Housekeeping Team Leader at Elmbrook Court Care Home

Meet Maria Fletcher, our dedicated Housekeeping Team Leader at Elmbrook Court Care Home.  With a lovely background and a wealth of experience, Maria embodies the values of Oakland Care.

Maria’s career journey began in a completely different industry; she was originally a hairdresser. However, her passion for cleanliness and teamwork led her to pivot to the care industry, where she served as a housekeeping manager for another care group. After a stint as a night care assistant at Elmbrook Court, Maria felt the call to lead. “I wanted to develop my team leader skills further,” she shares. “When the Housekeeping Team Leader role came up, I obviously applied.”

Why did Maria choose to become a housekeeper in the care industry? “I love the challenge and the job satisfaction I get from what I do,” she explains. “I love the team I work with and seeing them achieve good results. It is great to be part of the leadership team at Elmbrook.” Maria joined Oakland Care because she believes it is the best company in the area.

Maria’s most memorable experience in life is raising her children—they changed her life forever! Outside of her professional life, she is passionate about reading—especially crime novels—and cherishes quality time spent with her cheeky and lovable grandson. When the opportunity arises, Maria enjoys cooking, with Thai sweet chili salmon being her favourite dish.

When asked about her major achievements, Maria proudly states: “My children—they make me very proud.” If she were to embody an animal, she would choose to be a dolphin for their intelligence.

With a keen eye for style, Maria’s favourite colour is black, as it “goes with anything!” She enjoys the simple pleasure of a chocolate hobnob biscuit paired with a cup of coffee, and when it comes to pizza, she firmly believes that pineapple does not belong on it. Her favourite film? “City of Angels,” which resonates deeply with her.

Looking ahead, Maria has clear aspirations: “To still be part of Elmbrook Court in the same role I love doing. I am excited to see how far my career can take me in the next three years.”
