Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, a momentous occasion that calls for celebration and remembrance. At Oakland Care Homes, we paid tribute to this significant milestone in history, honouring the bravery and sacrifice of our WW2 veteran, Donald, our resident at Elsyng House Care Home, and all the courageous individuals who served their country.
We welcome Joanna Lee to join us for a D-Day performance, which was fuelled by Donald’s tipple of choice – Whiskey. Joanna’s heartfelt performance resonated with everyone present, and thanks to her for adding a special touch to our commemorative event. Donald, we salute you with admiration and respect for your service.
At Osbern Manor, the residents came together to create a meaningful and memorable experience, honouring the 80th Anniversary of D-Day with reflection and remembrance. It was a day where poignant moments filled the air and took the opportunity to pay tribute to the heroes who fought in World War II.
The home was delighted by a performance from a Pearly Queen, whose lively music and spirit added a special touch to their commemorative event, lifting the spirits of all those in attendance.
Residents also shared and passed around artefacts belonging to war veterans, each piece telling a unique and powerful story of courage and sacrifice. This artefact sharing allowed residents to connect with the past and gain a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made for the cause of freedom.
