We are delighted to shine the spotlight on Chef Robert Lewis, the Head Chef at Hyllden Heights.

His journey from the shores of Australia to the heart of the UK brings a wealth of diverse culinary experiences and a passion for providing exceptional dining experiences for our residents. Chef Lewis’s culinary odyssey began in the vibrant culinary scene of Australia, where he honed his skills in a variety of hotels and restaurants across Australia and Europe over the last 20 years. His love for cooking was not just about creating delicious dishes but also a way to explore new countries and cultures, making it an enriching life skill.

 

Before joining Oakland Care, Chef Lewis successfully ran a French Bistro on the South Coast of New South Wales, showcasing his expertise in French cuisine and hospitality. Transitioning into the care sector was a new and rewarding experience for Chef Lewis, who found the luxury brand of Oakland Care particularly appealing. He has seamlessly translated his passion for culinary arts into providing our residents with unforgettable dining experiences, emphasising the importance of nutrition and overall well-being.

Beyond the kitchen, Chef Lewis’s life has been filled with remarkable experiences. His most cherished memory is meeting his wife while working on the picturesque Daydream Island in the Whitsundays, a meeting that has blossomed into a 10-year marriage and two wonderful children. When he’s not creating culinary masterpieces, Chef Lewis enjoys indulging in his passions for tennis, mountain biking, and spending quality time with his family.

Chef Lewis’s favourite colour is blue, and he has a soft spot for Tim Tam biscuits, describing them as “like a penguin but 100 times better” – a connection to his Australian roots. He also doesn’t shy away from the pineapple on pizza debate, enjoying it with ham without any hesitation! As for his favourite film, it’s none other than Star Wars, showing his love for epic adventures.

Looking ahead, Chef Lewis envisions continuing to grow within the Oakland Care Group while also settling back into life in the UK and savouring the joys of a happy life.
