We are pleased to introduce the next chef in our Spotlight Series leading up to International Chefs Day. In this edition, we are delighted to present our Head Chef, Luke Heasman, who brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role at Birchwood Heights.

Luke’s journey in catering and elderly care began over twenty years ago, just two weeks after his sixteenth birthday. Before joining Oakland Care, he served as a head chef for a different care provider. With over two decades of experience, Luke has honed his skills to a high standard, benefiting the residents under his care.
Luke’s passion for cooking ignited at a young age. He was inspired by baking with his nan on the weekends and influenced by his uncles, one of whom worked as the head chef in a hotel and the other of whom owned his own butcher shop. Both of his uncles inspired him to pursue a career as a chef. His decision to join Oakland Care stemmed from the opportunity to showcase his expertise and learn from the talented chefs within the organisation.
Luke joined Oakland Care because he saw it as a great opportunity to show off his skills as a head chef. Oakland has some of the most talented and skilled chefs in the business, and I felt I could and have learnt a lot.
Luke shared a memorable experience, which was the birth of his daughter, and he loves reading, “getting lost in a good book is one of the best things in the world”, said Luke. He also enjoys attending rock concerts, and scuba diving.
Luke’s major achievements in life are a testament to his dedication as he overcame his reading challenges and became a foster carer!
Another fun fact fun, if Luke were an animal, his team members said, they think he would be a turtle! Luckily for him he loves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Quick fun facts about Luke:
  • What is your favourite colour? Purple
  • What is your favourite biscuit? Fig Roll
  • Pineapple on a pizza or not? Yes
  • What is your favourite film? Withnail and I
Over the next three years, Luke aims to grow and develop his team’s skills to provide an excellent service to the residents. Luke’s dedication to his craft and commitment to enhancing the dining experience for residents make him an invaluable member of the Oakland Care team. We are privileged to have him as part of our family, and we look forward to witnessing his continued impact in the years to come.
