Celebrating Pride Month at Oakland Care And Embracing Diversity and Inclusion

June is Pride Month. This is a particularly meaningful time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, reflect on the progress made, and recommit to building inclusive environments where everyone feels valued. At Oakland Care, we are proud to support our residents, team members, and families by creating a welcoming space that honours diversity and encourages authenticity every day.

Each year, Oakland Care marks Pride Month throughout our homes with a variety of activities designed to bring our community together in celebration and education.

Our Maplewood Court care home had a wonderful time this week celebrating Pride Month with a vibrant Rainbow Afternoon Tea Party, complete with delicious treats, cheerful smiles, and a warm atmosphere of love and acceptance. Our residents also enjoyed a fun twist on the classic game of bingo, and with Aldi UK’s Kevin the Carrot making a surprise appearance as the star prize! It was truly a joyful afternoon celebrating pride, unity, and the unique spirit of every individual. Activities such as these, also create opportunities for residents and team member to connect, share stories, and learn from one another in a spirit of respect and kindness.

At Oakland Care, inclusivity isn’t limited to Pride Month; it’s part of our daily commitment. We understand that for many older adults in the LGBTQ+ community, entering a care setting can raise concerns about acceptance and respect. That’s why our team receives ongoing equality and diversity training focused on understanding and meeting the needs of LGBTQ+ residents.
