Good Care Month 2024 is here, and it is a time dedicated to recognising and celebrating the remarkable individuals and organisations that provide exceptional care in our communities. This month is not just about acknowledging the hard work of caregivers but also about promoting awareness and encouraging the continuous improvement of care standards across various settings, including, care homes, and community centres.
The Importance of Good Care
Good care is fundamental to the well-being and quality of life of individuals, particularly those who are vulnerable due to age, illness, or disability. It encompasses a range of services designed to support physical, emotional, and social needs. High-quality care ensures dignity, respect, and the highest possible level of independence for those receiving it. Ania Benhamau, one of our nurses, when asked about why she enjoys her job said that making a difference to peoples’ lives is so fulfilling:
“I love feeling like I have made a difference and there is nothing better than helping people, especially older people and I love working with them”.
Recognising Caregivers
This Good Care Month, we shine a spotlight on our dedicated team, who are the backbone of Oakland Care. These professionals, including carers, nurses, managers, our lifestyle team and chefs who go above and beyond every day, to ensure that our residents receive the best possible care. Their work often involves long hours, emotional challenges, and physical demands, yet they approach their roles with unwavering dedication and empathy. Dave, a carer at our Lambwood Heights care home said that he “wants to give people a better life and make sure that they are able to enjoy their lives as much as possible. I enjoy caring for other people”.
We are celebrating our team more than ever this month and each care home will run activities to show their thanks and appreciation for what they do on a daily basis to help make our residents’ lives as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible.
Careers in Care
A career in care is deeply rewarding and allows individuals to make a significant impact on the lives of others. There is a steady need for carers nurses, and support staff. This demand translates into a variety of job opportunities and career pathways, from home care and residential settings to specialised roles in healthcare facilities.
At Oakland Care, we have continuous learning and development opportunities for our staff, with numerous training programs and certifications available to enhance skills, advance careers and help provide job satisfaction. For those passionate about helping others and looking for a stable, fulfilling profession, a career in care is an excellent choice.
Theresa Doody, Lifestyle Manager started in the Care Sector Two years ago:
“I happily juggle being a wife and a mum to 3 teenagers with being a Lifestyle Manager, a First Aider, a Mental Health First Aider and a Well Being Champion, a Green Champion and now a Singing for the Brain Delivery Partner. I thrive on working hard and enjoy taking advantage of the fantastic training opportunities that are offered to me at Oakland Care. I like to think that I inspire women to work equally as hard, to enjoy every day and to believe in themselves – they can achieve great things in their careers later in life, as I only applied for my first job in the care sector years ago when I was 43.”
