Carers Week is an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the invaluable contributions of unpaid carers throughout the UK. This year, the theme for Carers Week is ‘Caring About Equality’, highlighting the essential need for a society where carers are truly valued, recognised, and supported. At Oakland Care, we believe in treating our carers not just as team members, but as family.
During Carers Week 2025, our senior leaders took the time to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our team members. Each day was filled with activities designed to bring smiles and appreciation to those who care for our residents.
At Beechwood Grove, the festivities kicked off with a delicious surprise—a Domino’s pizza delivery for the wonderful carers on shift. Because let’s face it, hard work deserves tasty rewards! Following this, they kept the spirits high with a hydration trolley, a midweek treat from Carnival Ice Cream Van, and an exciting carers’ raffle. Their night team, who work just as diligently, were also included in the celebrations with pre-ordered treats—a small token of gratitude for their dedication and compassion. Dean Haffenden, Senior General Manager, commented, “Thank you for your dedication, care, and compassion, day and night. You make Beechwood Grove the warm, welcoming home it is.”

Over at Elsyng House, the celebration continued with warm gestures from residents, who took the time to write thank-you cards with love and gratitude for the carers. These touching notes served as a beautiful reminder of the strong bonds formed within our care home. Alina Simon, General Manager, commented, “To all our dedicated team members—thank you for your kindness, compassion, and commitment. You are truly the heart of our home”.

At Osbern Manor, the appreciation didn’t stop there. Team members were treated to coffee and doughnuts as part of their Carers Week celebrations, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere to show gratitude for their hard work.

Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, perfectly encapsulated the spirit of this week: “Carers Week 2025 is a crucial opportunity to increase awareness, highlighting those who provide vital care to family members, friends, or neighbours when they need it most. We want to see a future where they have the right support and the same opportunities to lead healthy and financially secure lives alongside their caring role.”

As we reflect on this meaningful week, let us continue to champion the importance of caring for our carers. At Oakland Care, we are proud to stand alongside our dedicated teams, celebrating their contributions, acknowledging their challenges, and nurturing an environment of support and appreciation. Together, we can work towards a more equal society where every carer feels valued.
