Christmas in Our Care Homes
Christmas in Our Oakland Care Homes
Christmas in our Care Homes is the most wonderful time of the year! Our team members work incredibly hard all year round to ensure that all our residents live fulfilling and enjoyable lives, and Christmas is certainly no exception. From pantomimes and sing-a-longs to a visit from the Big Man himself, the festive season is in full swing at Oakland Care – Oh yes it is!
Decorations & Tree Ceremony – Birchwood Heights
It is Birchwood Height’s very first Christmas this year and they started off the festivities with a beautiful tree-lighting ceremony.
Christmas is often about traditions, and our residents and team members thought that it would be wonderful to start their own for our Birchwood Heights family. The oldest resident and the youngest team member on the shift switched the tree lights on together – Bert who will be 99 next week and staff member Danielle who is 19 had the honour of doing this. An absolutely wonderful and festive afternoon was had by all.
Elf Day – Beechwood Grove
Our teams could not let this day pass without celebration, even Head of Departments joined in and donned their best Elf outfits for the occasion. Our residents enjoyed a good giggle at the team and their antics throughout the day and funds were raised to help support the work of Eastbourne Dementia Alliance Trust.
Pantomine – Elsyng House
No Christmas is complete without a visit to the panto! Well, our Elsyng House team arranged for the panto to visit our residents and what an afternoon of entertainment everyone had! Not only did our residents enjoy watching the panto and enjoying snacking on yummy popcorn and treats too, but they also had a great time meeting the actors and actresses afterwards. It really was a theatre-quality experience but in the comfort of their own home.
A Visit From Father Christmas – Lambwood Heights
Our Lambwood Heights team managed to secure the presence of Father Christmas before his schedule got too busy! Residents and their families enjoyed spending some time with him and he very kindly brought along gifts which he handed out to residents’ grandchildren who had visited. The excitement of the children and the very special visitor certainly added to the festive buzz that is building in the home.
Artisan Christmas Market – Elmbrook Court
Our Elmbrook Court care home hosted this lovely market as a way of enabling residents to do some independent Christmas shopping in the comfort of their own home. There was an array of stalls selling some beautifully handcrafted items ranging from homemade soap and handcrafted cards to a gentleman selling local honey. It really was a lovely way to spend an afternoon and residents were very happy with their purchases of Christmas gifts for family and friends.
Snowman Competition – Maplewood Court
Snow arrived at our Maplewood Court care home this week, which could only mean one thing…. a snowman competition of course! Our team worked hard on creating some masterpieces whilst the residents enjoyed the view whilst keeping toasty and warm inside! The snow was such a perfectly timed and welcome addition to our Christmas festivities.
Classic Christmas Show – Hastings Court
‘Rock around the Christmas Tree and Singalong with me!’ This is what Jasmine, our talented singer requested on arrival at Hastings Court, and it is exactly what our residents did! From traditional classics to a couple of more recent additions, Jasmine entertained our residents and staff alike. There was singing, dancing and plenty of tinsel involved…and most importantly our residents had the most wonderful time.
Christmas Art Club – Woodland Grove
A Christmas themed art club was enjoyed by residents at our Woodland Grove care home. Residents created some very beautiful Christmas Trees using a variety of different materials and techniques. The results were really effective and will be displayed around the home with some of the other beautiful Christmas decorations.
These are just some of the wide range of engaging activities and exciting events that are happening across our care homes throughout December.
